Sports Day!
What a brilliant Sports day! Everyone worked so hard, and congratulations to Woolley on their win! The children were very supportive of one another, and it was great to be able to enjoy a morning of sports in the sunshine! Huge thanks to Mr Rouse for organising and St Marks for hosting us. DT in Apple
Apple class have focused on their DT project this week: moving Father's Day cards! We started by evaluating existing cards, thinking about the positives and negatives of each design. We then investigated how to make something move in a card and explored levers and simple mechanical systems before making our own. (see the pictures below). Weekly Round Up
It's been another soggy week, but each class has been busy, busy, busy! Our Christian value for the term is compassion. In celebration assembly this week, we talked about why we show compassion. Jesse suggested that if we show compassion to other people, they will show compassion to us. Continuing science in Apple
Apple class have continued our focus on science, learning about more inventors and conducting more investigations! We started by learning about Thomas Edison and investigated how we can make our own circuits We then moved on to Maggie Aderin-Pocock, a scientist who worked on the Aeolus project, a satellite which investigates wind speed to help measure climate change. Although we don't have access to the satellite, we investigated wind direction by making our own weather vanes

Science experiments in Apple
Apple class have been having lots of fun with our new Science topic, 'Super Scientists'. We started the week with Isaac Newton and explored his understanding of gravity. We investigated this using spinners and paperclips. We noticed that the heavier spinner would hit the ground first because it is heavier. We then moved on to his work on light, focusing on what happens to light as it moves through a transparent object. We used a range of prisms to explore how light travelled

Team work in Apple
Apple class have been lucky enough to work with the year 5 children today! We had lots of fun, from sharing books and supporting each other in maths to producing some amazing mandalas in art using natural materials. The year 5 children were such a wonderful help and we loved having them!
