In Oak Class this week, we enjoyed a formal debate with a very important question: "Should a solar and turbine farm be built in Swainswick valley?" Using their teamwork skills, the children prepared persuasive arguments to lead the discussion. It was a lively experience filled with lots of learning and fun! Arguing against the motion, the children highlighted some important concerns. They talked about how the beautiful landscape might change and considered the effects on local farming and wildlife. They also discussed worries about noise and light pollution possibly affecting the community. In favour of the motion, the children shared strong arguments about the environmental benefits of clean energy. They explained how such projects could bring new job opportunities and improve community services, like better roads and educational opportunities. After hearing both sides, the class took part in a "free vote" to express their personal opinions. The outcome of the debate was not a surprise!
