What fantastic weather we have had this week! The hills have been alive with the sound of music as each class has been busily preparing for the Spring Concert. The children can't wait to share their performances with you.
Our value for the term is ‘Courage’. This week in assembly we focused on creative courage, imagining what could be and preparing to take risks. We linked this to the Spring Concert and the courage everyone is showing by performing in the church in front of the whole school and parents!
Mrs Simmons has loved spending time in classes this week looking at the brilliant writing children have been doing. As a school, we are working really hard on making sure all of the sentences we write are punctuated accurately and our spellings are accurate. In KS2, children having been having spelling lessons using the 'Essential Spelling' programme, which is helping them to understand spelling rules and patterns. In KS1, children are using the Little Wandle phonics programme to practice their phonics and spellings. Mrs Simmons loved seeing children in Apple class write character descriptions of Rosie Revere, Engineer, using apostrophes to show when something belonged to Rosie. Reception drew amazing workshops for Rosie and labelled things she had in them, including flags, a rocket she has built and jars for potions. In Hazel class, children have been formatting their Iron Man poems accurately using onomatopoeia on alternate lines, and also learning to change speech bubbles into formal written speech. Mrs Simmons was very impressed with some of the similes the children created to describe the Iron Man's favourite food (think ancient, rusty chains like spaghetti!). In Oak class, the children have created information texts about hidden messages in quilts, varying their sentence lengths. They wowed Mrs Simmons with their identification of different parts of sentences within different sentences structures, and were able to put their Essential Spelling session into practice straight away, using words ending in 'able' and 'ible' in their writing. Well done everyone!
