It’s been a great week. On Tuesday, we welcomed Faye Pinner our school ADE for a visit. This is something we do several times a year. As part of Faye’s visit, Mrs Boyce, Faye and I looked at phonics learning in Apple class, our learning environments, Maths in Oak class and handwriting in Hazel class. Faye commented on how brilliant all children’s learning behaviours were across the school. We were all very impressed with the progress children in Apple class have made in the first 3 weeks of term, especially the children in Reception who have got used to school routines and expectations so quickly. What a great start everyone.
What's been happening in classes:
Apple:
This week Apple class have been thinking about the text ‘The Rainbow Fish’. During English, we have designed scale shops, written letters to naughty sharks who have stolen all of the scales and have thought about different places the shark could hide the scales, using the days of the week in our writing. In science, we have been learning about animal habitats around the world. The children have blown us away with their animal knowledge, and learnt more about how artic and rainforest animals are adapted to their habitats. Finally, we have been preparing to do some paint printing in art next week. Click here to find out more.
Hazel:
Hazel Class have been working extremely hard on their Geography learning over the past few weeks, and Thursday was no exception. We have been exploring the polar regions – the Arctic and the Antarctic – learning about the animals that live there and the unique environments they call home. Why not ask your child if they can tell you what “tundra” means? Click here to see some pictures.
In Maths, Hazel Class have all successfully logged on to TT Rock Stars and have begun practising their times tables. We’re looking forward to seeing their speed and confidence grow as they continue to practise.
In Art, we have so far explored the work of Charles Fazzino and Leonid Afremov. This Friday, we will be turning our attention to city landscapes, experimenting with different mediums as we try to replicate striking cityscape photographs.
Oak:
Our wonderful Oak Class has been diving into the world of poetry! They've been writing and performing poems inspired by the famous "Night Mail" by W.H. Auden. Taking inspiration from modern messaging, emails, and even the chats during online gaming, the children have been crafting their pieces using rhyming couplets and catchy rhythms. The children enjoyed standing on the classroom stage to share their creativity! Click here to see pictures.
