Welcome to Term 3! We’ve seen signs of Spring this week! The sun has shone, the robins are making an appearance in the grounds (they’ve even visited us in the classrooms!) and we’ve enjoyed some great playtimes.
Our value for the term is ‘Courage’, and Miss Hitchcock lead an assembly about this on Wednesday. The children heard about the courage of a 13 year old boy who went above and beyond to help his family in a time of need. Over the coming weeks, we will be thinking about how we can demonstrate courage in the things that we do.
On Monday, Mrs Boyce, Mrs Simmons and Miss Hitchcock attended a Trust wide early years moderation event. This was a great opportunity to come together with Early Years colleagues from across the Trust to discuss teaching strategies and engage with recent research to incorporate into our learning at Swainswick.
What's been happening in classes:
Apple:
Today, Apple class have had a great time designing Viking longships as part of their 'Travel and Transport' topic. The children have used mixed media to show key features of the longships. Click here to see pictures.
Hazel:
This week in Hazel Class, we’ve launched into our brand-new topic on the Shang Dynasty — and what a fantastic start we’ve had! We got creative by making our very own ‘oracle’ shells and experimented with writing Chinese symbols, just like people did thousands of years ago. The classroom was full of excitement!
In Maths, we’re continuing our fractions journey and the class are absolutely smashing it! Today we explored fractions that are ‘more than 1’ — stretching our brains and rising to the challenge. Well done, Hazel Class — keep it up! Click here to see pictures of the children’s maths work.
Oak:
This week, Oak Class have enjoyed hands-on maths; they learned how to measure volume and capacity. The children worked in teams to tackle Mrs Coleman’s tricky water challenges, sharpening their estimating skills and having a splash-tastic time! Not only did the young mathematicians learn about measurement units like millilitres and litres, but they also discovered the importance of teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
