It’s been another wonderful week at Swainswick!

In our values assembly this week, we looked at mutual respect within sport, thinking about the different ways this can be shown. We spoke about shaking your opponents’ hand at the end of the match, giving thumbs up for a great job and saying ‘congratulations’ when your opponent wins. Yesterday, Oak class put these ideas into practice when they represented the school at the Tag Rugby festival, demonstrating our school values of compassion, perseverance, courage, trust, thankfulness and respect wonderfully. Great job Oak class- we are very proud of you! Huge thanks to Mrs Coleman and Mr Rouse for organising the event, and to the helpers who supported us walking there, back and at the event.

This afternoon after school we have enjoyed an after school hot chocolate and cake sale run by Friends. Please click here for pictures and more information. Thank you to everyone involved in making this event such a lovely experience- what a great way to end the week.

What's been happening in classes:

Apple:

Apple class have really enjoyed our book 'Look Up'. Some of the class practised their fine and gross motor skills by making chalk meteors on the playground! For pictures, click here.

Hazel:

Hazel Class have published their Loki diary writing this week — and what amazing pieces they have created! Click here to see some of our wonderful work! We haven’t stopped there and have already dived straight into a very different and intriguing book: The Legend of Sally Jones by Jakob Wegelius, which centres around a little orphaned chimpanzee named Sally Jones.

In Maths, we’ve started a new topic: Length and Perimeter, where we’re learning to convert between centimetres, millimetres, metres, and kilometres.

In Geography, we are continuing to research the Arctic and Antarctic environments and the animals that live there. Meanwhile, in Art, we are continuing our Cityscapes scheme (click here to see pictures), and today we created some wonderful cityscapes using paper and ink!

Oak:

In Oak Class this week, the children had a fantastic time at the Tag Rugby Festival at Avon RFC.  Swainswick were awarded a trophy in recognition of their enthusiasm to play and sportsmanship.  Throughout the tournament, the children showed incredible teamwork with many children offering to play extra games as subs to make up the team numbers.  Well done Oak Class, you truly deserve this fantastic recognition. Click here to see pictures of this great event.

This year, the children experienced something new – walking back up the hill to school after the festival.  An impressive achievement for all showing how super fit the children are.  And we couldn't have done it without our amazing parents who supported the walks - your encouragement kept us moving!  Thank you.  A special shout-out goes to the two parents who stayed to cheer, organise, and make the day extra special. Your efforts were noticed and appreciated by everyone!

“She has really benefited from the different ages mixing, she often talks of the older children.

We feel all the staff know her, which is so special.”
