It’s been another brilliant week at school as Autumn starts to creep in. We’ve started learning our Harvest songs – listen out for ‘Conkers’ and ‘Potatoes’ being sung around the school (I love that one child described ‘Potatoes’ as a Swainswick belter - I couldn’t agree more!) This week, we continued to focus on our value of Respect in assembly, thinking about the bible story of Elijah and the widow. In the story, the widow shares the little food she has with Elijah, and in return, she is looked after as promised by God; her food doesn’t run out until the drought and famine is over. There were lots of brilliant ideas shared about how the story demonstrates respect, including, “Treat everybody kindly”, “If you trust others, you are showing respect,” and “Sharing with others is showing respect.”
What's been happening in classes:
Apple:
Apple class have had a very busy week focusing on our key text, ‘Lost and Found’. We have been story sequencing and writing as characters from the story, thinking about how they feel at different points in the text. Reception drew special suitcases for the characters, thinking about what they could take with them. There were some brilliant ideas shared. Jude put in pillows, Josephine put in a telescope, Jack put in a teddy and Oli packed lots of chips to eat! We have also been learning about directions, microhabitats, what makes us special, the story of the 10 commandments and designing some underwater artwork ready for printing. Click here to find out about a very special surprise we had linked to our science learning- it was so lovely.
Hazel:
Hazel class have shone this afternoon being super creative in their artwork. We have been looking at 'pop art' and the artist Leonid Afremov. Click here to see some of their work. Hazel class also enjoyed their first forest school of the school year – click here for pictures. In geography, the children have been working hard studying the lines of latitude and longitude. This was not easy, but Hazel worked hard together to find countries using a globe.
Oak:
Oak Class enjoyed a splendid outdoor adventure in the late summer sunshine. Looking and listening carefully, the Oak Class “detectives” spotted changes that sparked their curiosity. Why did a house have a blue roof? Where were the planes heading? What was the darkened circle of grass? Which direction is North? The children worked together in House groups to fold tarpaulins - teamwork makes the dream work, and the children displayed fantastic cooperation while having great fun! They also played a game that involved listening carefully and moving with care around each other. To see pictures, click here.
