It's been a short week this week, but another busy one!
On Wednesday this week, Mandy Wilton from MW Education spent the morning with us- you may have seen her with me on the gate in the morning. Mandy is hugely experienced in working with children and young people, and leads training on Trauma informed approaches in schools to support children with their behaviour. Throughout the morning, Mandy looked at our learning environment, spoke with staff and pupils and reviewed our behaviour policy. She commented that pupils learning behaviours were very good, and said, "Playtimes were safe, well organised and joyful." Mandy will be supporting us to adapt our behaviour policy and approaches for supporting behaviour over the coming months to make them even more successful for all children.
We need your help!
Y6 SATs are almost upon us, and will be running in school next week from Monday 12th to Thursday 15th May in the mornings. Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help us so far- this is much appreciated. We are still looking for some parent volunteers on Wednesday to support Year 4 and 5, who will be working at Swainswick Church to give the Year 6 plenty of space for their exams. We are also looking for some volunteers for Thursday morning – this would be supporting Oak class on site. If you are available and would like to help, please email the office as soon as possible to let us know. We will then get back to you to confirm. Dates and times below. Thank you in advance for your help.
Wednesday 14th May: 9.00-11.30 (approx.)
Thursday 15th May: 9.00-10.15 (approx.)
A message from Mrs Coleman for the Year 6 pupils:
The children in Year 6 have been working very hard in preparation for the end of Key Stage 2 assessments. We are delighted with their confidence and impressed with their splendid attitude to doing their personal best. We also know that there are things that the SATs cannot measure, such as the levels of ‘splendidness’ that your children are blessed with: their talents, strengths, personalities and uniqueness.
Well done Year 6 - we are extremely proud of you!
What's been happening in classes:
Apple:
This week in Apple Class we have been learning the story of Superworm in Drawing Club. Year 1 have begun to learn about fractions, finding half of shapes and amounts. Reception have been focusing on taking away using the language of first, then and now. The weather has continued to be kind to us so we are making the most of our outside space and learning to share and work with others.
Hazel:
On Thursday afternoon, Hazel class learnt about the artist Brendan Jamison, who likes to make sculptures using wax, wool and even sugar cubes! They were inspired to make sculptures of buildings using Lego. Siersha said, “I thought is was interesting that he made sculptures out of sugar cubes because I've never heard of an artist who used materials like that. I liked making my own Lego house!” Kit said, “I wonder if Brendan Jamison ate any of the sugar cubes while he was making his sculptures?”
