We’ve had a brilliant time this week! Everyone has been working hard and settling into our school routines. It’s been a busy week.
On Wednesday, we spent time together in assembly looking at our school values. At INSET, teachers worked together to streamline our school values from 12 to 6, to give us more time to focus on each value across the year. Our Swainswick school values are Respect, Compassion, Thankfulness, Perseverance, Courage and Trust. We will be looking at one value each term, and are focussing on respect this term.
What's been happening in classes:
Apple:
Apple class have worked so hard this week, thinking about the story ‘The Lion Inside’. Click here to see some pictures. In Drawing Club, Reception designed accessories to make the mouse roar like a lion, and wrote letters to make the objects shrink to fit in mouse's pocket. Year 1 have been retelling the story, writing captions to go with images and Year 2 have written diary entries from the point of view of mouse when he goes to see lion. We have been blown away by your wonderful work this week- well done everyone.
Hazel:
Hazel class particularly enjoyed learning about the different hemispheres in Geography. They loved using an orange to mark out the equator and hemispheres, and used labels and cocktail sticks to pinpoint countries that sit on the equator. Well done Hazel Class! Click here to see pictures.
Oak:
This week, the children in Year 5 and Year 6 have been putting their heads together to think about how to create the best learning environment in Oak Class. They brainstormed ways Mrs Coleman could help, like organizing more fun quizzes using Kahoot, and even thought about how they can support each other. It’s amazing to see how enthusiastic and caring everyone is about making our classroom a great place to learn. Click here to see some of their ideas.
Weekly timetable
Each week we have 3 in school assemblies that all children attend. On Mondays, we have our celebration assemblies, where we take time to look at achievements from the previous week. Tuesdays are singing assembly with George, and Wednesdays are our values assemblies, where we think about our value of the term. These are in the afternoons at 2.30.
We will be starting to visit Swainswick Church very soon for some of our assemblies.
Each day, our morning playtime is 10.30-10.45. Our lunchtimes run from 12.00-1.00 for Apple and Hazel, and 12.15-1.15 for Oak class.
Can you help?
We are looking for some dressing up clothes and collaborative games for our Apple class pupils to use. If you have any at home that you are looking to rehome and are still in good condition, please do consider us! Please drop any donations at the school office or at the classroom door.
