Little Solsbury Hill

Last week, Oak Class enjoyed an excellent outdoor learning experience to the Iron Age hillfort on Little Solsbury Hill, expertly led by Mr Rouse. Before leaving school, the children decorated their faces and arms with Celtic-inspired patterns using face paint. With many dressed in tunics, the class looked every bit like a tribe ready for exploration.
At the top, the children used maps to navigate, locating north and identifying local landmarks such as St Mark’s School and even the distant Westbury White Horse. The children used sponge balls to re-enact an attack on the hillfort, some built small “camps” along the earthworks, and a group of children simply enjoyed the freedom of running a circuit of the top. It was a glorious morning of imagination, history and friendship at a special local site. Happy days!
